Your Kingdom Come: What Jesus Meant and Why It Matters Today
What if the goal of following Jesus us bigger than getting into heaven?
it's a question worth asking because many of us as believers have grown up believing the goal of Christianity is to be saved, live a good life, and one day go to heaven. While that's certainly part of the gospel, Jesus points us to something even bigger.
"...on earth as it is in heaven."
In Matthew 6:5-13, Jesus teaches His disciples how to pray. Right in the middle of that prayer, He says, "Your Kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." Those words reveal God's heart. Following Jesus isn't just about looking forward to heaven one day. It's about living in a way that brings the culture and values of heaven into the world around us today.

1. God's Kingdom Is the Goal
It's easy to think of Christianity as simply getting to heaven, but Jesus calls us to see a much bigger picture. Through His life, death, and resurrection, we've been welcomed into God's Kingdom and called to live differently. Instead of asking, "How do I get to heaven?" we can begin asking, "How can I better reflect heaven here on earth?"
2. We Bring Heaven to Earth by the Way We Live
When God's Kingdom is our focus, it changes the way we see everyday life. We begin to value what God values. For example, love replaces bigotry or bias. Forgiveness overcomes judgment and bitterness. Generosity topples selfishness. Every act of compassion, integrity, and kindness becomes an opportunity to reflect God's heart in today’s world that desperately needs the redeeming hope of Jesus.
3. Every Believer Has a Part to Play
Bringing heaven to earth isn't reserved for pastors or ministry leaders. It's the calling of every follower of Jesus to live out this Godly mandate. Whether you're at home, at work, at school, or in your neighborhood, God can use your everyday conversations, choices, and actions to make His Kingdom visible. As the body of Christ, each of us is called to reflect Kingdom principles so that others can experience God’s love through us.

This week, ask yourself one simple question: How can I help bring heaven to earth today? Look for one opportunity to reflect God's Kingdom through an act of love, kindness, generosity, forgiveness, or encouragement. You may never know how one simple act of obedience can make an eternal difference, no matter how big or small.
