Division or Unity? The Choice Facing The Church Today

Turn on the news or scroll through social media, and you’ll find conversations that tend to divide people instead of bringing them together. Divisive words as well as conduct are no longer a problem in the world. It has found its way into the body of Christ. Too often, division has replaced the unity Jesus prayed we would have as believers before He returned to the Father. Instead of standing out, we have started to look a lot like the world around us.

We were never meant to live this way. Unity among believers is supposed to be our witness. For the Church today, unity among believers is not optional. It is essential to our witness in a divided world. This kind of unity is not built on everyone agreeing or seeing things the same way. It is built on submitting to Christ and choosing one another, even when we disagree. Human unity falls apart quickly, but divine unity is possible when Christ stays at the center of our mind, heart, and relationships.

Here are a few key takeaways we need to consider:

1. Unity Is Our Witness

· How we treat one another says more about our faith than what we post or proclaim. When division defines us, our witness suffers.

2. Unity Requires Humility

· Unity does not mean uniformity. It means listening, extending grace, and refusing to cut people off or cancel them when opinions differ.

3. Love Protects the Body of Christ

· Love is intentional, not passive. Loving our brothers and sisters in Christ helps keep division out of The Church and guards the unity in Christ that God has already given us.

Weekly Challenge

Be honest about your love walk, especially with believers who do not share your views. If your convictions come at the expense of love for your brothers and sisters in Christ, it is time for a reset. This week, ask the Holy Spirit to check your heart, your tone, and your responses. Unity must become our witness, because the world is watching.
